EnterpriseDB is Recognized for Second Consecutive Year as a Leader in 2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems

Date -2015-10-15 Location - Bedford, Mass For the second year in a row, Gartner has positioned EDB in the Leaders Quadrant in its influential annual study of operational database management system vendors. EDB views this as recognition that as the leading provider of Open Source-based Postgres products and services, EDB has become a dominant competitor in the database marketplace.

The key factors in EDB earning leadership status in the marketplace include:

  • Continued enhancements to core Postgres technology in performance, scalability and security, enabling broader deployment of applications delivering business innovation.
  • The EDB Postgres Management, Integration, and Migration Suites supporting replication, high availability, database monitoring and management, and data integration to meet the needs of mission critical enterprise applications.
  • DBMS convergence to support traditional structured, semi-structured and unstructured data types to reduce the need to deploy costly, one-off NoSQL data silos.
  • A rapidly expanding ecosystem of hardware, ISV, and system integrator partners supporting EDB Postgres solutions.
  • EDB’s complete suite of training, services, and support, ensuring successful adoption of Postgres and migration of workloads from proprietary databases.

“The market has spoken. Developers, architects, DBAs and now CIOs and CFOs have declared their preference and clear need for open source database solutions to support their workhorse applications. We consider our continued placement in the Gartner Magic Quadrant as confirmation of the magnitude of this transformation, and EDB Postgres is the open source relational database of choice if you want to get out from under the spend burden of the big proprietary vendors,” said Ed Boyajian, CEO of EnterpriseDB.

“We are helping our customers save 80% or more,” Boyajian continued. “That math is not being ignored any longer. Our leading customers are expanding their EDB Postgres deployments at an accelerating rate, running more traditional mission critical workloads and new innovative customer engagement applications. This gives our customers another tool for managing their contractual relationships with the proprietary players by allowing them to optimize their DBMS workload deployments to the most cost-effective platform.”

“Open-source relational DBMSs (RDBMSs) have matured and today can be considered by information leaders, DBAs and application development management as a standard infrastructure choice for a large majority of new enterprise applications,” stated Gartner in an April 2015 report, The State of Open-Source RDBMs, 2015.** The report recommended: “Add an open-source RDBMS to your organization’s RDBMS standards for new uses, and to replace a commercial RDBMS where it and specific functionality are not required.”

EDB counts 87 of the Fortune 500 among its customers and is meeting the needs of global companies in North America, Europe, and across Asia. EDB customers are in industries including financial services, manufacturing, healthcare, as well as federal, state, and local governments.
